The Ichetucknee Alliance has issued the following message regarding Paynes Prairie. Please sign the petition to protect the park.
In solidarity with another state park in our area, Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, we are asking for your help. The prairie is an important aquifer recharge area that lies within the springshed of the Santa Fe River springs, and it is under threat from the FL Department of Environmental Protection which is considering allowing cattle grazing, logging, and hunting in our state parks. Here are some links that provide more information; please share widely if you are so inclined. Note: There is some thinking that permitting these activities in our state parks might be a move toward privatizing them.
