Florida Defenders of the Environment has sent the following information. If you possibly can, attend this meeting and tell Mr. Miklos and Ms. Shortelle that what they are doing is inexcusable. Silver Springs belongs to the people of Florida, and to our descendants, and the civil servants in power do not have the right to destroy our water treasures. These antileaders should be removed from the office and stripped of the power they are abusing. Go to Palatka and tell them.

Sleepy Creek Lands Consumptive Use Permit Update
In May of last year, an administrative law judged sided with the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD), permitting a rule change to move forward that allows the agency to continue to issue Consumptive Use Permits (CUP) and the unsustainable over pumping of water from our aquifer.
One of the biggest potential beneficiaries of this decision is Sleepy Creek Lands. On Tuesday, January 9 at 11 a.m., the SJRWMD Governing Board will vote on a permit application from Sleepy Creek that seeks to pump an additional 1.22 million gallons of water a day from the aquifer. This permit will have an adverse impact on Silver Springs, the Silver River and the Ocklawaha River.
Join us in Palatka next Tuesday to voice our concerns and ask the Governing Board members to reject this irresponsible permit.
