It appears that neither the State of Florida nor the city and residents of Dunnellon have the will nor the desire to save one of the most beautiful spots on the planet, Rainbow Springs and River.
The State has refused to protect it by allowing more and more pumping in order to appease those who want free water. They continue to play the game of wise, scientific “protector” but cherry pick and change the numbers to make them fit their needs.
And the river and the springs are dying on their watch.
It is both heart-breaking and infuriating to see the sham of the misnamed Southwest Florida Water Management District work in cahoots with the equally misnamed Department of Environmental Protection to permit the slow death of this spring, so reduced in flow that it is nothing like it was in years past.
Beginning in 1977, we have spent hundreds of hours both above and within these crystal-clear waters. Sadly, the river is not the same today and likely will suffer more abuse, as explained in the article below from the Florida Springs Council.

Your forgot to mention the waterfront acreage that the landowner is protecting from any future development… You also forgot to mention his willingness to alleviate tuber traffic from blue run park. Lastly you forgot to mention what the landowner has done with a choked out spring he purchased in the area by restoring it to a rich thriving spring.
Can online comments be sent to the city council by those unable to attend meeting?

Are there any flyers that we cam hand out? My community does not allow signs in yard. I want to help stop this.
