Alachua Conservation Trust Launches Inaugural Florida Wild for All Diversity Scholarship

Gainesville, Florida – As part of Alachua Conservation Trust’s (ACT) commitment to better address the intersectionality between our work as a land conservation nonprofit and the equality and representation needs that exist in our community, ACT is pleased to announce the 2021 Florida Wild for All Inaugural Scholarship.

With this scholarship award, ACT seeks to amplify and celebrate the existing voices of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Multiracial People of Color interested in pursuing a career path in natural resources management or protection of the environment of Florida.

Selected recipients will be awarded $250-500 for the 2021-2022 school year, which can be used for expenses as they relate to pursuing a career path in the environment and/or natural resource management fields. Awardees will also be invited to participate in future ACT community events and programs, including the ACT Internship Program, which provides students and recent graduates with the skills and training needed to pursue a career in the natural resources or nonprofit fields.

“ACT recognizes that as a local conservation nonprofit and land trust, we can do more to facilitate equal representation within our organization and in the communities that we serve, stated ACT executive director, Tom Kay. “With the Florida Wild for All Scholarship, we hope to provide resources and support to Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Multiracial People of Color that are interested in working in the environmental field.

This is another step towards creating safe and equal spaces for the enjoyment and protection of natural lands.” Funding for the inaugural 2021 scholarship was made possible with support from ACT’s staff and board as well as a generous grant from the Jelks Family Foundation. Those interested in supporting future scholarship awards can donate to the Florida Wild for All Fund at www.AlachuaConservationTrust.org/donate.
