For those who were unable to attend the May 3, 2016 meeting of the BOCC of Alachua County, Mr. Sexton and representatives of Bradford County were present, and witnessed Alachua County’s strong stance against mining threats to the Santa Fe River.
It was here that Chris Bird, Director of the Environmental Protection Department described the danger as the largest potential impact of the Santa Fe River he had seen in his tenure as Director ( see OSFR post here.)
At this meeting the Alachua commissioners offered their assistance to Bradford County in any procedures or actions to control their county and maintain its protection. Since Alachua County is on the forefront of environmental protection and well informed on these issues, we can hope that Bradford County will accept this offer and act accordingly to maintain control over what happens to the Santa Fe River.
This is an extremely serious threat to our river and what happens in the next few months will have effects for generations to come. Please attend this meeting and let these five people in Starke know the importance of their decisions and how they will determine the condition of everyone’s river
