Following is an email sent to our President Michael Roth from “The Story of Stuff,” a nationally known organization that takes on issues such as Nestle.  Our story has again gone nation-wide, reflecting the huge pushback on the destructive corporation that is Nestle by people across the country.

Action alert: Stand up to Nestlé in Florida

Dear Michael,

For decades, Nestlé Waters – the world’s largest water bottler – has bought up access to public water across North America to turn our most precious public resource into a private commodity. Now, they’re up to their usual tricks in Florida… and it’s up to us to stop them.

Nestlé and its local pumping partner, Seven Springs Water Company, are seeking a new water use permit to extract almost a million gallons per day from Ginnie Springs, a threatened source for the Santa Fe River. The Santa Fe River and its springs are already flowing at well below minimum flow levels and have been deemed “in recovery” for years – so why should we let Nestlé suck our rivers dry for their profit?

With a critical permit process now underway, we’re joining with local grassroots groups in Florida to demand that Nestlé end the extraction and leave Ginnie Springs. We need you to add your voice. The Suwannee River Water Management District Board is about to make a final permit decision, and they need to hear from you – add your comment via their online portal.

We believe in water for people, not for profit. Nestlé makes billions of dollars each year off our public water, harming communities and the environment in the process. Enough is enough!

Thank you for flexing your citizen muscles and standing up for public water in Florida.

In solidarity,
Brett Chamberlin
Director of Community Engagement
