We all drink out of the same Floridan Aquifer, and
the Santa Fe River, like WWALS’ Withlacoochee River, is a tributary
of the Suwannee River.
Fracking in north Florida could affect our drinking water,
and if it were allowed there, next frackers would try to cross
the state line, just like the Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline
already is.
So everyone who can, please support OSFR. -jsq

OSFR as an organization will be on the agenda of the Columbia County
Board of County Commissioners at the Jan. 15 meeting, requesting
that the commission enact an ordinance which bans all forms of
fracking in Columbia County.

Please plan to attend this important meeting, either

to be a part of
the discussion or simply to learn more about the ever-growing
potential threat of fracking for gas and oil in Columbia County.

The Columbia County BOCC has been a strong leader in key
environmental issues so we are hopeful that they will continue to
show leadership within our state by adopting this important
ordinance.

However, a strong show of support by our membership or anyone
interested in protecting our fragile springs and rivers would help
our commissioners know that they are securely supported by their
constituents and assist them in making the right decision.

If Columbia County enacts this ordinance, they will be the first
county in Florida to do so. This is extremely important, as it will
set a precedence and lead the way for other counties and
municipalities to follow in their footsteps toward a safer and
healthier Florida for all of us to live in.

So please attend, whether you speak to the issue or not, as a show
of interest and support for our threatened environment.

This important meeting will be held Thursday, January 15 at 5:30
p.m. in the Columbia County School Board Administrative Complex
Auditorium, 372 West Duval Street, Lake City, Florida 32055,
