Some invasive aquatic plants pose a significant threat to human welfare and cause economic problems by impeding flood control and affecting recreational use of waterways.(FWC)
Yes, this may be so, but the poisons poured into our water ways may be a threat to human welfare and affect recreational use of waterways. These poisons also kill creatures living in the water. Diquat dibromide is moderately toxic. It may be fatal to humans if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin in large quantities.[5]
(Extension Toxicology Network)
There is no need for spraying poisons into our rivers. We have mechanical devices designed for weed control. The FWC uses herbicides instead because it is cheaper. That is no excuse. Saving money is no reason to use herbicides.
There will be a workshop in Gainesville, time and place to be announced. Stay tuned for news and please come to this meeting and tell the FWC to STOP PUTTING POISONS IN OUR WATERWAYS.

Aquatic Herbicide Treatment Public Workshops
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is holding several public meetings to gather community input about the agency’s aquatic plant herbicide treatment program.
Invasive plants degrade and diminish Florida’s waterways by displacing native plant communities. Some invasive aquatic plants pose a significant threat to human welfare and cause economic problems by impeding flood control and affecting recreational use of waterways.
These meetings will provide the public with an opportunity to give feedback about management activities on Florida water bodies during the past 12 months.
If you are not able to attend one of these meetings, you can provide comments to Invasiveplants@MyFWC.com.
