Blues Music and Canoe Cruise In One Afternoon
Area residents and visitors are invited to join two local nonprofit organizations–Our Santa Fe River and the North Central Florida Blues Society–for an relaxing paddle and musical brownbag lunch on the Santa Fe River Saturday, March 17, from 9:30 am to 1 p.m.
As part of RiverFest 2018, participants will kayak or canoe from Highway 27 to Rum Island County Park. The group will rendezvous midway at Lazy Turtle Lodge’s beautiful riverfront lawn to enjoy an old-style picnic with live music featuring award-winning Bear & Robert. The paddle is one of the “explore, learn and play” RiverFest 2018 events sponsored by Our Santa Fe River, Inc. this spring. Our Santa Fe River (OSFR) is a North Florida non-profit, volunteer organization working to protect our springs, river and aquifer.
Paddlers will meet at the State Road 27 Bridge just north of High Springs to unload boats and gear. They will have the option of taking their vehicles to Rum Island Park to catch a shuttle back to the boats or shuttling themselves. Paddlers should bring picnic lunch and liquids as well as a blanket or chair. Area outfitter Rum 138 is offering shuttle, lunch and canoe and kayak discounts.
There is no charge for this event, but tickets to other RiverFest events, such as the 8th Annual OSFR Songwriters Contest on Sunday, March 25, can be purchased here.
