The Bradford County Board of Commissioners met this morning, August 1, 2016 in Starke and conducted business as usual. Your OSFR historian spoke briefly requesting an up-grade on the Land Development Regulations in order to prohibit any mine placed near the New or Santa Fe River. No other reference was made to the phosphate mine by public comment or by county officials.
Paul Still spoke briefly regarding the Chemours mine and an up-coming permit which will be required.

-A river is like a life: once taken, it cannot be brought back-
Unfortunately, one for sure and probably more of the commissioners believe the mine is going to lift Bradford Co. out of poverty and into riches. They discount the risks, the destruction, the waste land, and the economic “bust” that inevitably follows the short spurt of income.
All they need to know is what phosphates have done to Okeechobee, Southeast and Southwest Florida… And it looks like they are next
Thank you Jim for continuing to be present and accountable in Bradford County. Wishing more Bradford County residents knew about the proposal and spoke out.
