Take note of this date to attend the solar and climate change forum presented by the Interfaith Climate Group and the Unitarian Universalists Earthkeepers — Sunday, March 26, 2017, 2 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4225 NW 34th St. in Gainesville.
The forum will present three speakers with ideas and solutions to solar in Florida.
Dr. Wendell Porter is an agricultural and biological engineer at UF who specializes in “green” buildings and heat and mass transfer. He also teaches courses in global sustainable energy. Abhaya Thiele is Region Coordinator for Citizen Climate Lobby in Gainesville. Wes Wheeler is an attorney in Gainesville and with the Solar Co-op of the League of Women Voters.
This is event is free and the public is welcome.

Join us for Our 2nd Annual RiverFest & Songwriting Contest on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 1 to 7 pm at Rum 138!
The OSFR 7th Annual Songwriting Contest will be held from 2-4 pm.
Crooked Counsel will be playing after the Song Contest. There will also be a Silent Auction.
Grilled hot dogs/hamburgers, veggie food, desserts, sodas and beer will be sold.
Advance tickets are $5 per person through April 5 (children under 12 free); $7 per person thereafter.
Our Santa Fe River Songwriting Contest
Our Santa Fe River, Inc. (OSFR), a non-profit organization working to protect the aquifer, springs and waters, is sponsoring the songwriting contest and music festival. It will be held at Rum 138, located west of High Springs (corner of C.R. 138 and Rum Island Terrace), and hosted by WKTK host Storm Roberts.
Songwriters should submit an MP3 about the Santa Fe River no later than March 1 to info@ourSantaFeRiver.org. Judges will look for originality, quality of lyrics, melody and performance.
The finalists will take the stage during the afternoon and will have an opportunity to win the $300 first place prize. Each finalist will receive a professional video of their performance, which also will be placed on YouTube.

Matt Keene’s new documentary, “Lost Springs,” chronicles the Ocklawaha River’s hidden springs that return to life every three to five years when there is a drawdown at Rodman Reservoir, which–along with the George Kirkpatrick Dam–is part of the defunct Cross Florida Barge Canal. Filmmaker Matt Keene, springs artist Margaret Tolbert, boat captain and environmental activist Karen Chadwick and St. Johns Riverkeeper Lisa Rinaman will share stories about the beautiful lost springs and the fight for their restoration.
