Finally Bradford County is moving on the mine issue.  Tomorrow night at the regular Board of County Commissioners meeting, the county attorney will request the pleasure of the board regarding consultants.

Come to the meeting and let the commissioners know your opinion.

Thursday, April 20, 6:30 at the Bradford Co. courthouse, 945 N Temple Ave.  Starke, FL.

Thanks to Kate Ellis who sent the following email:

THERE IS AN ITEM ON THE AGENDA THURS NIGHT REGARDING THE PHOSPHATE MINE:
5. County Attorney Reports – Will Sexton A. Request direction on proceeding with an advertisement on a Request for Qualifications to assist in the review process of a mining application.
What he means by that is, should they hire someone to review the permit application for mining?  He says that although Alachua County has offered to help us, they will not take on the full review of the application themselves. He also stated they would not be considered neutral, since as staff they work for a board on record opposing the permit.
Also, FYI, there is a zoning meeting at 6:00, prior to the BoCC meeting, and on that agenda is the RV Park next to Tom’s BBQ (in my neck of the woods). I understand there may be dozens of public comments about this. Our 6:30 meeting may be late to start.

  1. If it’s like other govt. entities that use outside consulting firms (hired suits from Orlando) like Hawthorne did recently for their Envasion Alachua PUD, the results will favor the will of who is signing the check. That also goes for the BOCC that I$ influenced by applicant $upport.
