The Columbia County Legislative Delegation Meeting took place today at Florida Gateway College, with Sen. Rob Bradley and Rep. Elizabeth Porter presiding. Most of the county governing bodies were present as well as the Suwannee River Water Management District and about six private individuals.
Of the six, interestingly, three of them mentioned or was totally about fracking. Lucinda Merritt of Ichetucknee Alliance spoke for the ban-fracking bills, as did OSFR member Kristin Rubin and your historian.
SB 462 has been filed by Sen. Dana Young and HB 237 by Rep. Kathleen Peters. Sen. Bradley was asked to hear the Senate bill in his committee, where hopefully it will appear.
These bills are the same as last year with the same language. Please contact your Tallahassee politicians and ask them to support these important bills.
Comments by OSFR historian Jim Tatum.
