OSFR made headlines in the Lake City Reporter today, January 16, 2015, in the featured article dealing with the request made of the commissioners, that they sign off on a fracking ban for the county.
All the commissioners agreed to move forward with the process of adopting an ordinance which would do just that. If there were doubts of any kind, President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson put them to rest with her professional, powerful and persuasive presentation outlining the many dangers and negative aspects of fracking.
A group of about 30 supporters were there to back her up and some were passionate in their convictions. Chairman Rusty De Pratter, County Manager Dale Williams, and Commissioner Ronald Williams all spoke favorably for the ordinance.
OSFR commends the Columbia County Commissioners for their forward thinking and assertive actions, and also is grateful to Editor Robert Bridges and the Lake City Reporter for his coverage of the event.
