Once again we thank Andy Marlette and the Pensacola News Journal for giving us permission to use their cartoon, which appeared today in the Gainesville Sun. This of course refers to the Manatee County Commissioners who foolishly have decided to risk our aquifer by injecting toxic process water into the ground. Scientists do not know what will happen when we put poisons into the ground, they are only guessing.
We believe putting our drinking water at risk is not a good solution to this environmental problem, caused in part by our dysfunctional Department of Environmental Protection.
Incredibly, the Manatee BOCC and the DEP continue to allow Mosaic to pile the gypstacks higher and higher, thus prolonging these problems and assuring their continuance. These agencies are incapable of learning from past mistakes and environmental tragedies.
Apparently their reasoning (we won’t use the word “thinking”) is, “well, both the aquifer and the Gulf of Mexico still have room to dump our garbage in. Let’s use them up and let future generations worry about our stupidities.”
