Dozens of civic groups and businesses  simultaneously gathered in front of the district offices of Florida Senate President Andy Gardiner and House Speaker Crisafulli and Glen Springs to ask for leadership to strengthen water legislation that fails to protect state’s water bodies and endangers human health.  Delivery of the letter to Senate President Gardiner and House Speaker Crisafulli offices immediately followed the press conference.   Florida’s world-class lakes, rivers, and springs and estuaries are in declining health. Our state’s shimmering waters have turned green and many are making us sick. This has had a severe impact on our environment, local businesses and property values.

This happened in  Orlando and Merritt Island, where letters were delivered, and also in Gainesville, in Ring Park.  The crowd was enthusiastic with strong speakers, among them Frank Jackalone, Whitey Markle, Maryvonne Devensky, all of the Sierra Club, Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson of Our Santa Fe River, Steve Robitaille of Florida Defenders of the Environment, Bob Knight of Florida Springs Institute.  The press and local TV stations were present, and also photographer John Moran, photographer Lynne Buchanan, Springs Council representative Bob Palmer, Pam Smith of OSFR, and many other local environmentalists.
