Yesterday, January 27, 2015, the Florida Springs Council held a meeting to create formal committees that support protection of the Floridan aquifer and our waterways and springs. The various committees will focus on legal and legislative issues, education, and fundraising, all in regard to rivers and springs.
OSFR’s primary mission is to collect and disseminate information with the goal of protecting the waters and lands supporting the aquifer, springs and rivers within the watershed of the Santa Fe River. Our secondary mission is to promote public awareness pertaining to the ecology, quality, and quantity of the waters and lands immediately adjacent to and supporting the Santa Fe River, including its springs and underlying aquifer.
The activities of the Florida Springs Council coincide perfectly with the educational goals of the our organization, which was represented by President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, who was accompanied yesterday at this important meeting by OSFR intern Colleen Whitehouse from the University of Florida.
