Dr. Robert Knight of the Howard T. Odom Florida Springs Institute announced today the recent formation of a new Florida Springs Council, composed of representatives from seven major Florida water advocacy groups. These are Friends of Warm Mineral Springs, the Ichetucknee Alliance, the Howard T. Odom Florida Springs Institute, the Kings Bay Springs Alliance, Our Santa Fe River, Inc., the Save the Manatee Club, the Wakulla Springs Alliance, and the Withlacoochee Aquatic Restoration, Inc.
The mission of the Florida Springs Council is to ensure the restoration, preservation and protection for future generations of Florida’s freshwater springs and the Floridan aquifer that sustains those springs and provides our drinking water. The Florida Springs Council will provide a coordinated alliance of the many thousands of Floridians who think that our state’s priceless springs and aquifer have already suffered too much from the avoidable impacts of human development. The Springs Council will focus its efforts on springs education, legislation, and remediation.
Our Santa Fe River will be represented by President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson on this important committee.
