Come to the Alachua Library, 401 E University Ave., 5:30 to 8:30 on February 19, 2019 to voice your opinion to the FWC to stop chemical application to kill weeds in our waterways.

The State of Florida and the Fish and Wildlife Commission will tell you that chemical spraying is better than mechanical harvesting because it is cheaper.

In the long run, preventing the insertion of poisons into our waterways is preferable and cheaper.  FWC uses Diquat*, which can be fatal to plants, fish, turtles and humans.  We do not need this in our water.

Our state does not need to pose a health risk to us and kill wildlife because they want to save money.

Florida can afford these mechanical solutions.  We must not accept anything less.

*Diquat dibromide is moderately toxic. It may be fatal to humans if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin in large quantities.[5]  It bonds strongly to mineral and organic particles in soil and water, where it remains without significant degradation for years.[5]
