Another great Dip Day, come and gone already. The weather was ideal and the water was refreshing for this day of renewal for our connection with our soul-nourishing springs and aquifer.
The faithful gathered round the headspring and, shortly after 10 am the dip began. Earl Kinard, longest consecutive dipper, began the ritual without realizing it back in the 30s, and was there today for his dip along with son Wayne of Amigos Dive Center fame, located about two miles east of the park.
The fame of Iche Nippy Day has reached Gainesville and beyond, bringing TV Channel 20 to film the celebration, and interview live in the water OSFR board member Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson.
Comments by OSFR historian Jim Tatum.
