Restoring Florida Bay — a driving force behind the 1993 creation of the Everglades Foundation — is impossible without changes to the C-111 system, a senior scientist says. “If you don’t fix the problems created by the C-111, you don’t fix Florida Bay. It’s that simple,” he says.
Monday was a milestone in the development of Okaloosa County’s new sewage treatment plant. After about two years of construction, the county brought effluent from the Garniers Wastewater Treatment Plant to test the new Arbennie Pritchett Water Reclamation Facility’s pumps and oxidation ditches for the first time.
And a 28-year-old entrepreneur and St. Petersburg native plans to paddle a kayak down the Mississippi River this summer. He wants to raise awareness about protecting a natural resource and fulfill a longtime dream.
