Whitey Markle presents award to Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, ONLY 2ND AWARD GIVEN IN LAST 8 YEARS

OSFR policy director Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson was recognized by the Suwannee-St. Johns Group Sierra Club of Gainesville tonight when they presented her with the coveted “Cypress Award.”   The award reads “Cypress Award for Outstanding Contribution for the Public’s Environmental Awareness.”  This is only the second Cypress Award given out in the last eight years.

Policy Director Malwitz-Jipson has received other awards for her tireless dedication to educating and informing the public on issues regarding the environment and especially the rivers and springs.  She was one of the founders of Our Santa Fe River and was president for many years.  She currently serves on many committees and councils and is president of Save Our Suwannee.

She has given dozens if not hundreds of presentations on water conservation and quality, fracking threats and the Sabal Trail pipeline.  She is consistently present at county commissioners meetings and water management governing meetings as well as the Legislature sessions in Tallahassee when pertinent bills are being processed.

OSFR joins the Suwannee-St. Johns Group Sierra Club in congratulating Merrillee for her selfless work for everyone, and we are very proud that she honors our organization with her presence.

Thank you Merrillee!

  1. I can’t think of anyone that deserves to be recognized more for her work than Merrillee. Like our rivers and springs, she is a treasure. Thanks also to her husband, Doug, and her kids, who make sacrifices in order to have a activist Mom.
