Good morning all,

Please share the attached document from Whitey Markle of the Suwannee-St. Johns Sierra Club with your membership and contacts. The document addresses the latest Sleepy Creek Lands consumptive use permit request, which is expected to be considered for approval in January. Please encourage your membership to send comments, make phone calls, and attend the January 10th St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board meeting beginning at 9am in Palatka.

The Silver Springs Alliance has also created a blog post on this issue that can be easily shared online: http://silverspringsalliance.org/NewsBlog/4479713

It is important to show continued public opposition to this permit request, which threatens Silver Springs by proposing to allow one user to withdraw 2.54 million gallons per day (mgd) from the Floridan Aquifer. District Staff for the Water Management District recommended denial of this permit in 2014, but is now recommending approval with little alteration to the original request. You can read both the 2014 and 2016 technical staff reports by clicking on the Silver Springs Alliance blog post URL above.

We will send out additional details about this issue and the January 10th Governing Board meeting as we receive them.
