OSFR Advisor Tom Hawkins attended the latest board meeting on Feb. 24, 2016, and spoke to the group about the activities of Florida Defenders of the Environment, of which he is executive director. This group is very active in litigation and is currently engaged in a lawsuit aimed to force the State Legislation to execute their responsibilities regarding Amendment 1 funds.
As OSFR shares many of the same goals, our board recently initiated a matching-fund plan which resulted in a $1400 donation to FDE. It seems that our lawmakers’ lack of leadership makes it necessary to employ litigation in order to force them to carry out their duties. Since this is a difficult, time-consuming and expensive undertaking, OSFR feels this is money well spent, and congratulates FDE for their admirable efforts and wishes them well in their endeavors.
