Mike received the Suwannee St. John’s Group Sierra Club Award of Excellence for his hard work  involving Sabal Trail and other regional issues such as the proposed phosphate mine.  He has just recently taken the not-so-easy task of filling the presidency of our very active organization, and is our representative on the Florida Springs Council.

Others receiving the chapter’s Award of Excellence were Maxine Conner of Homosassa, who is Natural Resources Chair of the Citrus County League of Women Voters.  Maxine is familiar to many as she is seen often at rallies, water management and county commission meetings speaking for the environment on issues such as Sabal Trail, river MFLs, and LNG transport.

Others receiving this Award for Excellence were Gordon and Connie Hart of Dunnellon.

Yours truly was honored with the Florida Sierra Club’s Cypress Award.  In 2015, then-Policy Director of OSFR Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson received this state-wide award,  and in 2017 it was bestowed upon Deanna and Chris Mericle of Hamilton County, whom many of us know as strong opponents of the phosphate mine as well as Sabal Trail.

We appreciate this honor given us and express our gratitude to Sierra Club for the great work they do.
