Cindy Swirko, staff writer of The Gainesville Sun, has written a featured article entitled “A Year of Protecting Rivers and Springs; Also a New State Forest” in today’s edition, December 31, 2014.
In this article, in the sub-section entitled “Protecting Rivers,” reporter Swirko writes:
Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, the founder of Our Santa Fe River, has filed a petition seeking an administrative hearing to challenge a crop-farming permit.
Malwitz-Jipson has consistently called on the Suwannee River Water Management District to put a moratorium on issuing groundwater withdrawal permits until MFLs are in place and enforced.
The article also relates the actions of OSFR sister organization, the Ichetucknee Alliance, in challenging the water management district in regard to the flawed and ineffective minimum flows and levels proposed by that state agency.
