OSFR President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson Quoted In Gainesville Sun Featured Article, Wed. Dec. 31, 2014i

Our Santa Fe River, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501-(c)(3) organization incorporated in Florida on December 18, 2007. Our organization is composed of concerned citizens working to protect the waters and lands supporting the aquifer, springs and rivers within the watershed of the Santa Fe River by promoting public awareness pertaining to the ecology, quality, and quantity of the waters and lands immediately adjacent to and supporting the Santa Fe River, including its springs and underlying aquifer.

RIVER31workingnewCindy Swirko, staff writer of The Gainesville Sun, has written a featured article entitled “A Year of Protecting Rivers and Springs; Also a New State Forest” in today’s edition, December 31, 2014.

In this article, in the sub-section entitled “Protecting Rivers,” reporter Swirko writes:

Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, the founder of Our Santa Fe River, has filed a petition seeking an administrative hearing to challenge a crop-farming permit.

Malwitz-Jipson has consistently called on the Suwannee River Water Management District to put a moratorium on issuing groundwater withdrawal permits until MFLs are in place and enforced.

The article also relates the actions of OSFR sister organization, the Ichetucknee Alliance, in challenging the water management district in regard to the flawed and ineffective minimum flows and levels proposed by that state agency.
