Food & Water Watch is asking the Obama transition team to move forward and protect our food, water, fish.
December 4, 2008
We’ve been working hard to keep the Bush administration from making matters worse in their final hours. We are working JUST as hard to bring the critical issues involving your food, your water, your fish to the attention of the incoming government. Help us grow the passion for protecting food and water.
Talk to the Obama Transition Team about Why Food & Water are Important to You
At this very moment, our newly elected government is deciding what the most critical issues are for its first 100 days and beyond.
In the face of non-stop media attention to the economy and bailouts, we need your help in persuading the administration-elect that these crises cannot obscure the real threats to the basics of our survival.
Please join us in urging the Obama transition team to put food, water and fish on the top of their list and let them know you support Food & Water Watch’s policy goals of:
— Protecting Our Food: End Food Industry Self-Policing. Consumers need strong standards and strong enforcement by government inspectors. The USDA must abandon attempts to let meat plants do their own inspections. The Food and Drug Administration needs new authority and resources to inspect food processing plants and should be reorganized so it can devote proper attention and inspection resources to imported foods.
— Protecting Our Oceans: Stop Ocean Fish Farms. Industrial fish farms can pose serious threats to ocean wildlife, fishing communities, and consumer health. The government must not allow development of industrial fish farms in U.S. waters.
— Protecting Our Water: Fund Our Water Systems. We support President-elect Obama’s plan to increase federal funding for water and wastewater systems and to establish a national infrastructure investment bank. We urge that these funds should be available to only publicly owned and operated utilities.
Show the new government the public supports protecting our food, our water, our fish. Act now.
