We would like to pass along this important message and event info sent by the Florida Springs Council:
>From 4:30-6:30 p.m. on February 23rd, the Southwest Florida Water Management District will host a public workshop to present the proposed Minimum Flow for the Rainbow River System. The MFL proposes a 5% future allowable reduction in flow and continued pumping from an already impaired spring and aquifer system.
The final draft of the proposed MFL can be found here. The Water Management District Governing Board is expected to approve the proposed MFL at their March 28th meeting.
Join the Florida Springs Council and its member organizations for a rally at 3:30 p.m. in front of Dunnellon City Hall and urge the Water Management District to stop future pumping that will cause significant harm to the Rainbow River System by adopting an MFL that will protect and restore our springs and aquifer. Following the rally, participants are encouraged to attend the public workshop and make comments on the proposed MFL.
