A river clean-up sponsored by Rum 138 owners Doug and Merrillee Jipson, and the Amigos Dive Center took place Thursday. Rum 138 furnished the boats, equipment and transportation. Partipants, 20 in number, began at the Hwy 27 bridge and floated downstream to Rum Island, collecting trash as they went. A total of 58 pounds was removed from the river, and the hungry workers were rewarded by a cook-out after finishing their good work.
Many thanks to Rum 138, Amigos Dive Center (both of these fine businesses are heavily infiltrated by OSFR members) and the hardy volunteers for helping the river. Our river is suffering from the onslaught of more and more users, some of whom are less considerate than others. It is true that people will throw less trash in a clean area than in a littered area, so the cleaner we can keep the river, the better for all.
These sponsors plan another clean-up on August 14, 2014. Please consider helping out, and meanwhile please patronize these friends of the river and all of us: RUM 138, AMIGOS DIVE CENTER.
