Several different environmental groups, including sponsors OSFR, Current Problems and Trail Trash Outdoors pulled out over 400 pounds of trash from the river Sept. 12 and 13, 2020. Both Current Problems and OSFR are old hands at cleanups, having done many over the years, as has Wayne Kinard of Amigos Dive Center who regularly does cleanups. Newcomers Travis and Maverick Smith are active and hardworking with the energy and enthusiasm of youth.
As well as having volunteers doing pickup, OSFR board member Kristin Rubin tabled at Rum Island on Saturday and the Hwy 27 bridge on Sunday, starting points for each day.
Our thanks go to all the volunteers and to Doug and Merrillee Jipson of Rum 138 for assistance with kayak rentals and shuttle service and to Kristin Rubin for the photos .

Thanks to everyone who took part in the river cleanup, and those who supported their efforts. It’s sad that people who come out to enjoy the river don’t have the decency to take their trash home with them. These young people, volunteering to keep the river clean, give us hope for the future!
