Calling All Songwriters

Our Santa Fe RiverFest to be held April 17, 2016

Update:

***A big THANK YOU! to all the musicians who entered their original song about the Santa Fe River!  It was a tough choice, and now all Song Contest entrants have been selected.  Anyone that missed the deadline, you’ll have until next year to tweak your song to make it a sure winner!***

(High Springs, Dec. 15, 2015)—Songwriters can share their musical skills and help raise money for a good cause—OUR Santa Fe River—by participating in the 6th annual Santa Fe Riverfest and Song Contest, being held April 17, 2016.

Our Santa Fe River, Inc. (OSFR), a non-profit organization working to protect the aquifer, springs and waters in this area, is sponsoring the songwriting contest and music festival. It will be held at Rum 138, located west of High Springs (corner of C.R. 138 and Rum Island Terrace), and hosted by WKTK host Storm Roberts.

Gates open at 1 pm.  Music by “In the Moment” from 1 pm – 2 pm, contestants will perform from 2:00 to 4:30 pm, and the band Terraplane will play from 4:30 until 7:00, at which time a short jam session will be held.

“We encourage all songwriters to write a song about the river and share their talents with our community. We are especially excited about this next festival. It will be bigger and more substantial, with a band, family activities, food and drinks, and first-rate silent auction gifts,” said Pam Smith, president of OSFR. “We hope more songwriters will participate this year. Everyone is so appreciative of their efforts and truly enjoys the music.”

Songwriters should submit a MP3 about the Santa Re River no later than March 1 to info@ourSantaFeRiver.org. Judges will look for originality, quality of lyrics, melody and performance. The finalists will take the stage during the afternoon and will have an opportunity to win the $300 first place prize. Each finalist will receive a professional video of their performance, which also will be placed on YouTube.
