Dunnellon High School and Elementary. Sabal Trail corridor seen to the east, and not far enough away. Why did they build it so close?

Another view of schools and pipeline

Thanks to WWALS, a concerned group in the Citrus County area, Southwings pilot Roy Zimmer of DeLand, navigator Andrea Rea of Floral City and photographer Mark Skogman of St. Petersburg,  the Sabal Trail activity from Marion to Osceola Counties was observed by air. It appears that there are segments where the corridor is cleared but no ground is broken.  In places it borders dense housing developments, passing just feet from homes.  It also passes very close to Dunnellon elementary and secondary schools.

The pipeline traverses this housing development, and then continues along the left side. A rupture here would endanger many lives. We note that this risk is deemed in the public interest by our regulatory agencies, DEP, FERC, Army Corps of Engineers. It is in the interest of Spectra Energy, not the public, who does not want it.

How will Sabal Trail deal with a pipe leak here?  In reality, Sabal Trail builds the pipe and then lets local emergency crews handle any issues.  And they have plenty.   Parent company Spectra Energy has a terrible safety record, in spite of what John Peconom and Andrea Grover has said.

Adding more negative aspects to this unwanted pipe is the fact that it will carry fracked gas,  produced by a very destructive technique which is harmful to humans and our planet.  Plus such a large investment in this pipeline serves as an obstacle to the inevitable switch-over to sustainable energy.

Skirting a swamp/wetlands area, we see the normal green pipe appears to be cased in concrete.

Here the corridor passes very close to storage tanks of some type.
