Health And Environmental Organizations Bring Film Tour To High Springs
Groundswell Rising Will Educate High Spring Residents About Dangers of Fracking
High Springs, FL— Our Santa Fe River, along with two other organizations, will provide screenings of Groundswell Rising: Protecting Our Children’s Air and Water, a film that examines the lives of people from all walks of life, and all sides of the political spectrum, who are dedicating themselves to resisting, slowing down or stopping fracking. After the film, Craig Stevens, whose Pennsylvania community has seen the devastation that the fracking industry can have, will talk about what could await Florida’s residents if fracking moves forward in the state.
Who: The event is sponsored by Our Santa Fe River, Food & Water Watch, and Physicians for Social Responsibility.
What: Film screening of Groundswell Rising to educate Florida residents about the dangers that the fracking industry poses to public health and the environment from cradle to grave.
Where: High Springs Civic Center. 330 Santa Fe Boulevard. High Springs, FL 32643.
When: Tuesday, March 24. Doors open at 6:30p. Film begins at 7p

Background:
The oil and gas industry is looking to expand drilling for oil in the western portion of the Panhandle and on environmentally sensitive land in Southwest Florida near the Everglades, which could pose a major threat to Florida’s water resources in those regions. Simultaneously, NextEra and Spectra Energy Corp are proposing to build a 500-mile natural gas pipeline that would transverse Central Florida’s rich water resources. Several gas export facilities are also being proposed around the state. Taken together, all these projects could transform Florida into a major fracking hub.
