SRWMD launches Ichetucknee Springs Dashboard
LIVE OAK, FL, April 30, 2015 –
The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) is expanding its capability to share water quality data with the public through this springs dashboard. The new Ichetucknee Springs Dashboard offers users water flow and water quality data being collected and monitored by a collaboration of the District, US Geological Survey (USGS) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The springs dashboards offer users a nearly continuous view of the hydrology and water quality of springs. At Ichetucknee Springs, data are collected from Blue Hole and the head spring and updated daily on the dashboard. Visitors to the site will be able to access both historic and current data.
The dashboards can be viewed at http://www.mysuwanneeriver.org/dashboards/index.html . Ichetucknee Springs is a first magnitude spring group, and one of five springs where the District began collecting continuous real-time water quality data last year.
Over the next several months the District and USGS will be instrumenting additional springs, such as Peacock Springs, Lafayette Blue Springs, Allen Mill Pond Spring and Alapaha Rise with similar equipment. “Scientists and laymen alike have shown great interest in the water data. We are pleased to be able to share data with the public,” said Ann Shortelle, District Executive Director.
The dashboards have interactive maps, continuous water level and discharge as well as water quality data. Visitors may explore land uses within the springshed and see the mapped extent of cave systems for some springs. Additional first magnitude springs will be added to the dashboard throughout the coming year.
