The Suwannee River Water Management District (District, SRWMD)  has received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to develop two updated Surface Water Improvement Management (SWIM) plans for the following Basins:

Suwannee River Basin

  • o    Suwannee River

    o    Santa Fe River

    o    Alapaha River

    o    Withlacoochee River

  • Coastal Rivers Basin

    o    Aucilla River

    o    Wacissa River

    o    Econfina River

    o    Steinhatchee River

    o    Waccasassa River

The District is seeking broad stakeholder participation in developing these two comprehensive SWIM plans. Specifically, the District would like your assistance in:

  • Identifying priority issues and projects to restore and protect the water and natural resources in these basins; and

    • Reviewing the updated plans as they are completed over the next year.

To provide you the opportunity to participate, the District will be hosting three targeted stakeholder workshops in May at the District’s headquarters located at 9225 CR 49, Live Oak (Suwannee Room):

  • May 10, from 1-3 PM – Government stakeholders

    • May 11, from 9-11 AM – Agriculture stakeholders

    • May 11, from 1-3 PM – Environment stakeholders

These workshops will be followed by two regional workshops in June that will provide a progress report on the updated plans and solicit additional public and private input:

  • June 8, from 1:30-3:30 PM – Suwannee River Basin SWIM plan, District Headquarters, 9225 CR 49, Live Oak (Suwannee Room)
  • June 22, from 1:30-3:30 PM – Coastal River Basin SWIM Plan, Taylor County Administrative Complex (Old Post Office), 201 East Green Street, Perry

To encourage even greater public and private participation in updating the plans, the District will address all 13 Boards of County Commissioners in the SRWMD throughout the month of May and the first week in June.

If you have any questions regarding the workshops or the SWIM plan updates, please contact Tom Singleton at 850-556-9733 or tom@tlsingletonconsulting.com.

If you would like to speak with the District, please call Leslie Ames at 386-362-1001 or laa@srwmd.org.

The District thanks you for your input and support.
