We need your help to protect the 1,400 lakes in Lake County, the Green Swamp (liquid heart of Florida), the headwaters of the Ocklawaha River, Lake Apopka, the Clermont and Harris Chain of Lakes, and springs like Wekiva and Alexander. When Lake Co. BOCC passes this improved fertilizer ordinance it will help protect a lot of ground and surface water!
Lake County needs a push from all of us to finally adopt a STRONG urban fertilizer ordinance. They passed a weak ordinance earlier this year but we now have the chance to put some teeth into it.
Your presence at the County Commission meeting on Tuesday is what we need to outnumber and overpower the turf and landscape maintenance industries (they are pulling out all the stops to keep the ordinance weak)!
You can make sure the ordinance is strengthened to include a strict rainy season application ban on Nitrogen and Phosphorous! Show up and make it clear that clean water is good for ALL business, ALL people in Lake County!
This should be a no-brainer. There are already 11 counties and 82 cities in Florida covered by strict rainy season bans, including our neighbor Seminole County.
Please start by sending Lake County Board of County Commissioners a request that they vote in favor of the Fertilizer Ordinance before next Tuesday, Nov 21.
