By way of comparison, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports (p. 2) the following average monthly household expenditures:
- Alcohol: $38
- Entertainment: $217
- Food away from home: $223
- Gasoline: $230
In context, water doesn’t seem very expensive.
