Tonight, April 18, 2016, the Union Co. Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a vote on a 12 month moratorium on new mining operations in Union Co.
This was the second and final reading of the moratorium, and will allow time for the commissioners to study and consider land use and development regulations for their county. Three members of OSFR, Pete Cameron, Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson and your historian, all spoke to the board, urging them to find a way to prevent this risky and totally unnecessary operation.
One can only hope that Bradford County will turn out to be as progressive and wise as Union Co. when they consider the proposed mine on April 21 at 6:30 in Starke, and again on April 29.
