Commissioners receive documents and letters from OSFR and Carol Mosley.  Carol is one of the several hard workers on this issue.

Union County has issued a Revised Proposed Schedule for the Mining Moratorium, Comprehensive Plan Amendment & Land Development Regulations Amendment, as the original was delayed in order for all information to be included.

The amendments to the LDRs zipped through the workshop, the Planning & Zoning Board Public Hearing, and the Transmittal Public Hearing  with no hitch last night, Aug. 20, 2018, and all is in order for the  second workshop next month.

This next meeting will be Sept. 17, 2018, at 5:00 pm.  First Adoption Public Hearing is scheduled October 15, 2018 at 5:45 pm.   Final Adoption Public Hearing is scheduled for December 17, 5:45 pm.  That is when the vote will be taken to finalize the process.

Speakers on the amendment issue were John Lake, Carol Mosley, Mark Lyons, Mike Roth and your historian.  No one spoke for the mine.

Assistance for the changes to the Comprehensive Plan and the LDRs has come from the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council, who was represented at last night’s meeting, and also Alachua County Environmental Protection Department.

Please save these dates to come to support these five people who are standing strong against the mine.  They have been strong in the face of opposition.  Please send them a short email expressing your appreciation for keeping a destructive phosphate mine out of Union County and away from the Santa Fe River.  You can reach the all at this address:  secretary@unioncounty- fl.gov

You can address it to:   Chairwoman Karen Cossey and Commissioners:

  1. RIGHT ON! Informed opposition is the ONLY effective environmental protection strategy, and John, Carol, Mark, Mike, and Jim used it! Thanks, folks……!

  2. I would like to thank the following people for spending part of their Tuesday, 8/21/18, by speaking about the Amendment issue to Union County Board of County Commissioners: John Lake, Mark Lyons, Carol Mosley, Mike Roth, and Jim Tatum. Thanks for presenting Union County BofCC with documents and letters. My homework tonight includes writing a letter to members of Union County BofCC congratulating them for their efforts to keep a destructive phosphate mine OUT of Union County, FL.
