During the years that a mining company has threatened to tear up the countryside, Union County has exhibited strong united leadership and has made wise choices to protect their priceless rural way of life.

So does that continue to this day with the recent addition of two commissioners who have lent their support to the defense of the county and through the advent of  the bullying tactics of lawsuits  by the  mine company.

The commission chair, Karen Cossey has served her county well the past years, but now has decided to step down, leaving the only district with a vacancy this election year.

We are informed by our sources that at this point we have as candidates two Republicans, Ms. Kim Shatto and Mr. Ryan Perez.  These same sources indicated that both these people oppose having a  mine in their county.

If so, we will see a continuation of resistance to this threat to our river, our springs and our environment.

We salute Union County for protecting our river.
