Watch Out for Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Today Aliki  Moncrief, director of Florida’s Water and Land Legacy,  sent out an important e-mail.    We have been warned repeatedly about threats to subvert the original intent of the Amendment as approved by 75 percent of voters.  Here we see a serious danger, all the more so because it comes disguised as a friend of the environment, when it is the opposite.

Beware of Associated Industries of Florida, and beware of the H2O Coalition website, this is a lobbyist group for industrial corporations that want to make money at the expense of the Florida we want to preserve.

It is important that you contact your legislators and let them know what you want in regard to Amendment 1.  They are asking for your input.

Yesterday, I received an alarming email from an industry group masquerading as an environmental coalition. They want to see Amendment 1 funds go to infrastructure that could further deplete our waters and fuel irresponsible growth in our vulnerable natural areas.aifemail012215%281%29 In: Watch Out for Wolf in Sheep's Clothing | Our Santa Fe River, Inc. You and I worked hard to place Amendment 1 on the ballot and together, we won the support of 75% of Florida voters.

But now, a well-funded business lobbying group is trying to subvert the law that you helped pass. If you haven’t heard of Associated Industries of Florida, it’s the group that lobbies for the largest land developers and corporations in Florida. For years, they have fought against sensible environmental protections at the Capitol, and now they are working to divert Amendment 1 funds away from water and land conservation.

We need your help to fight back.

Make your voice heard right now. Let our senators know that you expect Amendment 1 funds to be spent on existing conservation programs, not infrastructure. Tell them that protecting conservation lands is key to protecting our water resources. Our waters must be protected at the source.

Please send your comments in today. The intent of Amendment 1 is to fund existing conservation programs that will protect our rivers, lakes, springs, and natural areas for future generations. Let them know we won’t allow the Water and Land Conservation Amendment to be subverted.

Thank you for your vigilance, and for all you do for Florida.
