The recent OSFR paddle upriver from O’Leno state park happened to take place on a beautiful day, cool, bright with blue skies and full sun. This in contrast to the last one, which went from the 47 bridge down to the 129 bridge on a cold day that ended with rain. But that was a wonderful trip.
Sunday had a large turnout, with 14 people making the trip. Boats were launched at the ramp on Old Bible Camp Road, near the I-75 bridge. Your writer remembers a day in 2012 when a local pickup truck drove from the boat ramp into the center of the river here with no difficulty. On this day, however, the water was sufficiently high that no portages nor boat dragging were necessary.
Four Phelans made the trip, also hard core ‘yakkers Rhonda, and Walter, and several others, including two new prospects for our organization, Maria and Chip, whom we hope will join us. Event leader Sandy H. got it all going and saw to it that no one drowned. Thanks to Rhonda Long and Sandy Hubbard for the photos.
