The annual Parknership awards will take place this year on May 9 at Fort White Middle School. OSFR is a proud co-sponsor of this fine program and is pleased to see the culmination of another successful year. We commend those who have worked hard to successfully implement this valuable educational program. Below is found something of the history of the program, taken from the school brochure.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In 2003, Fort White High School and Ichetucknee Springs State Park formally developed and implemented an “Outdoor PARKnership” for grades 6-12, providing coordinated science-related curricular and service learning opportunities to students themselves and to the park, as well as educating park visitors and community residents about threats to the fragile spring’s ecosystem. Since then, the PARKnership has grown to include, not only the park and the science classes, but now incorporates other subject areas and strong partners who believe in the mission to offer educational experiences for the students using local environment and community by providing hands-on, field-based investigation reinforcing classroom studies.
