Once again it is time to celebrate the wonderful Parknership program for young students at the middle and high schools at Fort White. This is the 5th year that OSFR has supported this program and this year we were able to donate $2,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In 2003, Fort White High School and Ichetucknee Springs State Park formally developed and implemented an “Outdoor PARKnership” for grades 6-12, providing coordinated science-related curricular and service learning opportunities to students themselves and to the park, as well as educating park visitors and community residents about threats to the fragile spring’s ecosystem. Since then, the PARKnership has grown to include, not only the park and the science classes, but now incorporates other subject areas and strong partners who believe in the mission to offer educational experiences for the students using local environment and community by providing hands-on, field-based investigation reinforcing classroom studies.
