President Malwitz-Jipson makes request

Due to the pending absence of Dr. Ann Shortelle, destined for Executive Director at St. Johns district,   today in Cross City, Carlos Herd was named Interim Director of the Suwannee River Water Management District.  On Tuesday in Palatka, the St. Johns board clearly voiced a preference for Dr. Shortelle, although a formal vote was not taken.

Carlos Herd has been with the District for nine years, and for the last three years he has served in the capacity of Division Director for Water Supply.

In other matters on the board today, it was business as usual, with OSFR represented by multiple members, and President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson requesting a moratorium on large water withdrawal permits of one hundred thousand gpd until it can be shown that such withdrawals
do not harm the aquifer.
She also requested that the board consider staggering their monthly meeting days, as currently, both

districts meet on the same days.   This makes it impossible to attend both, and since the Santa Fe River lies within both districts, sometimes it is a difficult choice.  President Malwitz-Jipson also thanked Dr. Shortelle for her good work and accomplishments at SRWMD and wished her well in her new endeavors.

Business as usual also included more withdrawal permits given, and some extensions.
