Hernando-Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)

This two-county planning board met today, June 2, 2022, to discuss the proposed Northern Turnpike Extension.  On May 25 the Citizens Advisory Committee of this board unanimously agreed to oppose the road.  The meeting today was to present it to entire Board of Directors.

Maxine Connor, League of Women Voters.

Sierra Club, under the able direction of Cris Costello and Michael McGrath, have been fundamental in organizing opposition to this needless political boondoggle.  A dozen or fewer people spoke to the turnpike issue, and every single one was opposed.

Dee Vonn Quirolo, Sierra Club.

No vote was taken and the board gave no discussion on this issue.

OSFR was represented by President Kristin Rubin and your historian.

Our thanks go to Sierra Club and all the individuals who have fought to preserve Florida’s environment and rural resources.

The Board.
