Happy May to Everyone,

Something to know about this month: May was named for the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants, also from the Latin word maiores, “elders” who were celebrated this month. Maia was considered a nurturer and an earth goddess, which may explain the connection with this springtime month. And that is what Our Santa Fe River (OSFR) will be doing during our outreach at the Florida Folk Festival by nurturing the conservation and preservation of our water.

The Florida Folk Festival is held in White Springs over Memorial Day and Our Santa Fe River will be having conversations with people from across the state of Florida, Georgia and more.  I am asking all that read this to please consider being a part of this conversation and supporting OSFR by contributing a few hours on May 26th, or 27th or 28th.

The most important thing we can do is have a conversation and listen to people’s concerns about their water. We will be talking about The Right to Clean Water and asking people from Florida to sign the petition and we will be talking about phosphate mining and the real possibility of phosphogypsum in roads.

Take a few moments and pull up the event, there are too many to write about here. When you come, take the time to enjoy everything, bring your partner to help with the outreach also, then go have fun!

If only 5 more people add their name to the schedule (see link below) we will have a full slate. If 11 people add their names, we can have shorter shifts and more time to enjoy the festivities. I will be sending out the OSFR location at the FFF and all pertinent information once you have signed up on the schedule.
