The Suwannee Democrat in Live Oak, FL has published the guest editorial written by President Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson and OSFR historian Jim Tatum.  The editorial outlines the threat of hydraulic fracturing or fracking, a growing danger to the Florida aquifer now that newer extraction techniques allow better access to gas and oil deposits.

Due to limestone deposits in Florida, the technique here is sometimes called “acidizing” or “acid fracking,”  a new name but the same old poisoning and contamination of the world we inhabit.

Our thanks go to Jill Yelverton of AQUIFERious for alerting us to the publication.  The article can be read in its entirety at this link.

The complete editorial can be read at our post at this link.
