RiverFest Plant Hike March 16 @ Little Awesome
Experience the magic of the bottomland forest winding along one of the wildest sections of the lower Santa Fe River when spring green tints the high canopy and lilies carpet the ground. Negotiate a karst landscape locally renowned for its unique geologic features, alligator nursery, and turkey population. The plants that comprise the bottomland forest have likely changed little in the past 20,000 years. Discover ancient water hickory and tupelo trees on the gradual ascent from an extensive floodplain to a mature mesic forest richly studded with stately
oaks and prominent understory shrubs. This incredible property was rescued in 2022 from pending development in an amazing response by Alachua Conservation Trust for protection in perpetuity.
