The 5th annual Clean Creek Revival took place today in Gainesville, sponsored by Current Problems and assisted by about 100 volunteers. Gainesville creeks are a huge container’s worth cleaner of human garbage today, thanks to these unpaid workers.
Special thanks to Wayne Kinard of Amigos Dive Center of Fort White, who is North Florida’s most skilled expert in aquatic trash collecting, probably because he practices so much.
When will our beautiful waterways cease to be used as garbage cans by uncaring, inconsiderate slobs? A huge challenge for education.
OSFR had a table and a presence, with Rhonda Long pulling trash, Cindy Noel face painting, Kristin Rubin and Patty Street manning the info table, and President Mike Roth making sure all went well.
It did until the rain came about 2:30, which resulted in a rapid take-down of equipment.
Comments by OSFR historian Jim Tatum.
